The Refinery | 9.19.17

Written by

I will bring that group through the fire
    and make them pure.
I will refine them like silver
    and purify them like gold.

They will call on my name,
    and I will answer them.
I will say, ‘These are my people,’
and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’”

Zechariah 13:9

WHAT is The Refinery? | High school juniors and seniors are invited to join ONE Ministries for a small group dedicated to preparing you for the immenent realities of life beyond college. Topics will range from maintaining faith in a secular, post-Christian climate, differing worldviews, time-management, finances and budgeting, and plenty more. This will be well worth the time spent -- it will help to not only build the faith and life skills necessary for the road ahead, but will foster a Christ-centered community for students to lean on throughout the process.

WHEN is The Refinery? | The Refinery goes from 8:00pm-10:00pm every third Tuesday of the month, starting on September 19th. We know it's late, but we also know you're busy with school and work and sports before then. Plus...it's only once a month!

WHERE is The Refinery? | We will be meeting at the Murphy's house in Longmont (1728 Trevor Court).

HOW MUCH does The Refinery cost? | There will be a $50 fee to sign up. I know, I know, but check it...that covers materials, food, AND an awesome celebratory retreat at the end of the school year! $50 doesn't sound so expensive anymore...does it?

HOW do I sign up for The Refinery? | All you gotta do is shoot Kyle an email ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) to let him know you're in - that's it! Make checks out to BCEFC and hand those to Kyle once you've signed up.

THE REFINERY is a commitment. It's a commitment to yourself and your brothers and sisters who are in this with you. Once made, we ask that you take the commitment seriously. If we commit to go through the fire together, I promise we'll come out the other side like diamonds.

FIVE | Deuteronomy: Remember | 4.30.17

Written by

Dear parents,

We just concluded our “Pentateuch” series about the first five books of the Bible. In the final lesson, we explored the Ten Commandments—but instead of the commonly used passage in Exodus 20, we focused on Deuteronomy 5:1-21.

This gave us an opportunity to explore the powerful truths of the Ten Commandments and to remember God’s work, faithfulness, and presence in our lives. Like the Israelites, we may experience God’s incredible work but then “forget” about God and choose our own path.

This week, I encourage you to spend a few minutes talking with your teenager about our lesson. Here are some questions that can start the conversation:

  • What’s your favorite story or event from the Bible, and why?
  • How does praising and thanking God help you remember what he’s done in your life?
  • As you draw closer to Jesus, which of the Ten Commandments seems simplest and most natural to follow? Which seems most challenging?

Thanks for all your prayers for our students and our ministry. Have an incredible week!

ONE Ministries Reading Sponsorship Program

Written by

This year, our students have the opportunity to raise funds for our summer mission trip in a brand new way!

The ONE Ministries Reading Sponsorship Program is an opportunity for the students of BCEFC to raise funds for their upcoming mission trip, as well as engage with thoughtful Christian literature. It is our hope that through this program, students discover new authors and subjects of interest, as well as establish meaningful relationships with members of our Chinese congregation.

STUDENTS, HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO!

  1. Decide how many books you're going to commit to reading (maximum 5 books) and let Kyle know ASAP
  2. Pick a book off of THIS LIST, and start reading! You will recieve $10 towards your trip for each book you read
  3. Once your done with your book, fill out this GROWTH INVENTORY and turn it into Kyle at church
  4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you've read all the books you're committed to
  5. All GROWTH INVENTORIES must be turned in by JUNE 25TH to be applied to your trip

NOTE: The number of books you decide on now will be applied to your final trip cost (due May 14th). If you fail to reach your goal, you will simply owe that money back after the trip.

SPONSORS, HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO!

  1. Sign up to be a sponsor at church this Sunday (4/30)
  2. If you did not specify a student to sponsor, you will be sent an email to introduce you to your student
  3. Each time your student turns in a GROWTH INVENTORY, you will be emailed a copy
  4. You will be notified when your student has completed all of their books, and at that point, you can bring cash or a check ($10 per book) to BCEFC - please make checks out to BCEFC

NOTE: The money will go a long way in helping your student raise funds for this trip, but please consider this as more than a monetary investment. You are investing in the spiritual growth of a student, through study and service. Read the inventories that your student has filled out. Spend time praying for their reading and their trip. If you commit to those things, much more will be gained - both by the student and by you, the sponsor.

RESOURCES

  • READING LIST - make sure to ask Kyle before you head to the library, he may have a copy of the book you're looking for!

FIVE | Numbers: Choosing Trust | 4.23.17

Written by

Dear parents,

We’re continuing FIVE by exploring the Bible’s first five books. This week’s lesson focused on Numbers 13:25-33, after Moses sends 12 spies into Canaan to see what the Israelites will face in the Promised Land. Ten spies return with a negative, fearful report, but Joshua and Caleb declare that God will help them conquer the land. Because of their trust in God, the men are encouraged and confident.

Students heard that whatever they’re facing, they can choose to trust Jesus and his ability to protect and guide them.

Sometime this week, spend a few minutes talking with your teenager about our lesson. You can build the conversation around these questions:

  • Tell about a time you trusted Jesus during a difficult or painful experience. How did that draw you closer to him?
  • Does thinking about consequences make it easier for you to choose wisely? Why or why not?
  • Why is fear so contagious? What fear do you need Jesus’ help to overcome?

Thanks for the privilege of partnering with you in this incredible adventure of teaching the next generation. Have a wonderful week!
